Countryside Leaders Award - Training

28th & 29th June 2014        - 09:00 Arival on the Saturday with an overnight camping to finnish at 16:30 on the Sunday

To progress to the next stage of the award it is essential to attend all elements of the course - please ensure that appropriate arrangements are made for any other commitments that you might have.

Phasels Wood Activity Centre is just 3 miles form Junction 20 of the M25 towards Hemel Hempstead on the A41.The entrance is in the second lay-by from the M25 roundabout. There is a sign just before the lay-by: ‘Scout Camp access via

Day 2 and 3:

Day two and day three of the course will take place in the Chiltern hills. Candidates will need to make their own way to the start point. Details of this will be given a week prior to the start date and we would encourage car sharing where possible.


Tea and Coffee will be provided throughout the evenings and at the debrief on the end of the fourth day.  On the two day expedition candidates will need to be self sufficient in food and drink.


During the first two evenings there will be some practical elements so please come suitably dressed and prepared to spend some time outdoors.

For the expedition on days three and four you will need to be suitably equipped for two full days outdoors and an overnight camp  We have attached a kit list and there will be an opportunity to discuss equipment on the first evenings.

Prior to attending this course, all candidates must be registered with The CLA, please visit to obtain your log book and course information there is a £35 fee payable directly.

Please note that the CLA award requires a training course, a consolidation period and an assessment expedition.
